What are Soap Nuts?
Actually they are the dried fruit shells from (or husks) the soapberry (or soap berry nut). More commonly known by many names such as soapnuts, soapberry, washing nuts, wash shells, Ritha (Hindi) nut shell, Chinese soapberry and more.
Soap nuts have been used for centuries throughout the world as a laundry detergent, as soap for personal hygiene, and as a multi-use cleanser.
There are several common varieties of the soapberry tree. Sapindus Mukorossi and Sapindus Trifoliatus are the primary sources for the soapberry, with Mukorossi being the highest quality soap nut, producing the most high saponin (soap) content.
Sapindus Mukorossi grows primarily in northern India and Nepal.

Important note: A large amount of soap nuts are pre-packaged overseas for retail in the US to save on labor costs. Hence, not even most U.S. and Canadian sellers can inspect them carefully.
